Defence
joins services as accredited trainer
The
Defence Learning Services Network (DLSN) has marked a significant
milestone in the delivery of education and training services to
the Defence portfolio.
The DLSN was formally accredited by the ACT Accreditation and Registration
Council, an external accreditation agency, as a Quality Endorsed
Training Organisation (QETO).
The DLSN was assessed for compliance against the nine QETO industry
standards. The impact for Defence personnel will be a more rigorous
approach to the check and improve elements
of the training system and an opportunity to refine strategic key
performance indicators.
The standards provide for improvement in business planning processes
with the emphasis on stakeholder consultation and contribution to
the planning process. This also provides the opportunity for Defence
to benchmark itself against other education and training services
and utilise best practice industry methods.
Business Education and Skills Development (BESD), as part of the
Defence Learning Services Network was officially presented with
Quality Endorsed Training Organisation (QETO) certification. Chairman
ACT Vocational Education Training Authority, LTGEN Laurie ODonnell
(Retd) and Chairman ACT Accreditation and Registration Council,
Dr John Grant, made the presentation to Head of the Defence Learning
Services Network, Mr Jason Brown, who also has the responsibility
as Director General for Safety, Compensation and People Development
Branch.
The presentation was a culmination of effort that began in March
1999, when Business Education and Skills Development (formerly Resource
Management Education and Training) commenced the QETO validation
process. Quality systems were then developed and put into place
as BESD aligned to the QETO standards. QETO planning and development
continued with the final BESD validation occurring December 17-19
2001.
The DLSN now joins Navy, Army and Air Force in the external accreditation
as Quality Endorsed Training Organisations. The accreditation offers
significant benefits to the Defence portfolio in the provision of
targeted quality training, as part of the continuous improvement
programs.
