The Australian Naval Cadet movement and the Navy Youth Program continue to be an important source of recruits for the Royal Australian Navy.

Of the 47 young men and women who joined the Navy in Sydney on September 2, said to be the largest induction ever, seven had served in ANC training ships while four had completed the Navy Youth Program conducted by FIMA/ Sydney.

One of the former ANC members to join up was Ryan McDonald from TS Manoora based in Taree.

On hand was his very proud father SBLT Jim McDonald. Jim is attached to HMAS Creswell as a staff member. He was founder of TS Manoora.

On graduation from HMAS Cerberus the youngsters will be placed in faculties to undergo specialist instruction before being posted to ships, squadrons and bases.
