The RAN has
taken delivery of its fourth ANZAC Class frigate, NUSHIP Stuart.
Delivery formally took place on May 31 at Tenix Defence's Williamstown,
Melbourne complex.
It was made "on schedule", Tenix said.
CDRE Trevor Ruting, the RAN's Director-General/ Major Surface Ships
accepted the 3,600-tonne warship from Mr Paul Salteri, Tenix's Group
General Manager during a ceremony on the ship's flight deck.
Mr Salteri said the ANZAC ship project continues to demonstrate that
well managed Australian industry can deliver.
"The project is providing quality ships which are proving themselves
in service," he continued.
"As developers and builders we are proud of this achievement and
our ability to conquer a myriad of challenges that inevitably arise
in a project as large and as complex as this.
"We are equally proud of the close working relationship built up
between the Defence Materiel Organisation, RAN and Tenix teams, which
is delivering results for us both.
"The importance of an Australian capability to build the ships
the Navy needs, to install and integrate their systems, and then to
support those ships in service, has been underlined by world events
in the last 12 months," he said.
Tenix Defence has a contract to build ten ANZAC ships, eight for Australian
and two for New Zealand.
The $6 billion project, the largest and most successful in the defence
arena in Australia, has earned Tenix international recognition and a
number of engineering and quality awards.
HMA Ships ANZAC, Arunta and Warramunga are in service along with HMNZ
Ships Te Kaha and Te Mana.
Ship 07 (Parramatta) is fitting out at Williamstown; ship 08 (Ballarat)
was launched on May 25 while the keel of ship 09 (Toowoomba) will be
laid next month.
The tenth ship will be HMAS Perth.
ANZAC has already served in The Gulf. Arunta will be there shortly.
