CPOTAF Darren Hooper of 817 Squadron, HMAS ALBATROSS, recently received the Australian Sports Medal, presented by the CO of 817 Squadron for recognition of services to the sport of touch football.

The Australian Sports Medal is been awarded to individuals during the year 2000 to commemorate Australian sporting achievement and has been established as a commemorative award with the Australian Honours system.

The medal was been created to recognise the support services to sport and has been awarded as one-off to coincide with the 2000 Olympic year.

CPO Hooper was awarded this medal as recognition of the hard work and dedication he displayed during many years of involvement in the sport of touch.
