Ocean Protector

During exercises in the East Australian Exercise Area HMAS BRISBANE, pictured, has demonstrated the power of her weapons' .systems.

As part of the work-ups for Exercise Ocean Protector the Steel Cat sharpened her claws with air-defence exercises culminating in successful weapons' engagements.

The Mark 42 five-inch gun mount again proved its usefulness by severely damaging a TGX-2 target during an anti-air-firing exercise.

The Standard Missile system was prepared for a firing but was cancelled due to a foul range.

BRISBANE's command team recognised a second window of opportunity for the Steel Cat to demonstrate her long-range abilities .
A Kalkara towing a TGX-17 was launched with only the Kalkarra surviving the encounter with the SM1 missile.

Many of the ship's company lined the upper decks to see perhaps BRISBANE's last missile firing before the end of an era. Proving yet again that the Mark 42 Gun Mount and the Mark 74 Fire Control System/ Mk 13 GMLS would forever hold their places in Australian Naval history.
