Rugby executive elected

December 11, 2000

The RAN Rugby Union annual general meeting was held last month and the following positions have been filled for season 2001:

President CAPT David Garnock; vice-president (women) CAPT Carolyn Brand (TBC), vice-president (men) CMDR Simon Gilbert; marketing manager CMDR Scott Muller; secretary LCDR Mick Doherty; treasurer LCDR Steve Thompson; national manager WO Simon Kelly.

Special events coordinators CMDR Ted Breukel, LCDR Tony Mather; public relations officer LEUT Scott Bretherton; development officer WOWTR Ron Giveen; museum curator vacant.

Men's team: coach CPOATV John Campbell; assistant coach CPOATA Linton Lee; manager LEUT Carl Oberg (TBC); assistant manager CPOATA Mario Cinello/CPO Ken Stevenson; zambuck Mr Warren Colliss; players' rep POMT John East.

Women's team: coach CPOB Barry Learoyd; manager LSPT Vanessa Dickson; zambuck vacant; players' rep vacant.

Meanwhile, ASRU has had serious discussions with the ACT Brumbies management, who are very keen to see ASRU and the single Service sides play curtain-raisers to their Super 12 fixtures.

The plan was for two of the national interservice matches to be played as curtain-raisers to the Brumbies two consecutive home fixtures, then for ASRU to travel to Queensland and possibly New Zealand to play before the Brumbies next two away fixtures.

Unfortunately, these Super 12 draw fixtures will be played too early in the year and operational commitments will prevent the plan from going ahead in 2001.
