St John's Cathedral in Brisbane saw more than 1000 people join to remember, celebrate and dedicate two magnificent memorial windows to mark the goodwill between Australia and the United States, when personnel from both countries worked side by side in Brisbane during WWII.

Eight American ex-servicemen from the USS HENRY T ALLEN and their families travelled to Australia to attend the special dedication, all reinforcing friendships with their Australian mates. Designed by artist Glenn Mack, the windows feature an eagle in each flying towards a great union, with a wedge-tailed eagle recognising an Australian icon and the bald eagle characterising USA. The eagle also carries a deeper meaning as the symbol for St John the Evangelist. Readers are also invited to contribute to the completion of what will be known as the Australian-American War Memorial Tower by contacting Mrs Peta Nagle on 07-3835 2224.
