Booklet aimed at making moving easier

December 11, 2000

A new booklet designed to help Defence families better cope with moving house was launched recently by the Minister Assisting the Minister for Defence, Bruce Scott.

Home is Where the Family Is: Moving House with Children, a joint venture between the Defence Community Organisation and the Australian Early Childhood Association was launched at Parliament House.

Mr Scott said, on average, a Defence family would move house every three years because of the highly mobile nature of the ADF.

"A move is never easy, and when a young family is involved it can be a very daunting experience indeed," Mr Scott said.

"Home is Where the Family Is: Moving House with Children, deals with understanding change, preparing children for the move, the move itself, and the settling in process."

He said that the booklet was an easy to read guide for families that had been developed following significant consultation with serving ADF men and women, their families and the DCO.
