Navy…take a bow

May 29, 2000

A group of Australian volunteer aid workers has applauded the RAN for its continuing work in taking vital humanitarian aid the group has collected, to East Timor.

The latest cargo of aid items is now on its way north in HMAS TOBRUK.

"We would again like to thank the Australian Navy for its continuing assistance in transporting the goods we have collected for the people of East Timor," Kim Gago, the NSW representative of CNRT-NEC (East Timor support group) said.

The plaudit to the RAN was on behalf of Kim and the appeal volunteers who have set up a Timor Appeal Warehouse in Marrickville.

"Our group of volunteers continue to be surprised by the success of our campaign and the generosity of the Australian public," Kim told Navy News.

"We are extremely grateful to the Navy and the other defence forces for providing transport to East Timor as well as support with trucks and containers.

As donations continue to flow in, we hope for your support in moving much needed supplies to Dili and beyond so that construction of East Timor can continue.
