The RAN Dragon Boat Team entered two teams of eight personnel in the inaugural Tram Track Challenge which was held in conjunction with the Brunswick City Festival last month.

Teams were divided into a professional section and a community section.

The object of the competition was for a team of eight people to pull the 22 tonne tram a total of 50 metres in the fastest time.

There were 11 teams in the community section and seven teams in the professional section.

Both Navy teams were entered in the professional section along with five other gymnasium teams who were described as "giants" compared with the Navy group.

However, size did not matter to the Navy team as its training was focussed on achieving any goal set.

With this attitude, they pulled the tram to finish third with a time of 34.93 seconds in the professional section, only two seconds behind the winning time of 32.56 seconds.

The Navy team received plenty of support from the crowd and was the talk of the town.

In the lead up to the event, our team used a 45 seat Navy bus to practice its pulling ability.
