Let there be no misapprehension, our support to OPERATION GOLD, the Sydney 2000 Olympic and Paralympic Games later this year is a serious matter. It is critical that we do not underestimate the commitment required of this operation. Our contribution is as important and will potentially be as demanding as any operation we have conducted in recent times. Both our security and general support will require the same professionalism, dedication and commitment that we give to our other military operations like East Timor, Bougainville, and other important overseas operations.

I am proud of the hard work that all our people are putting into making sure we are operationally ready. I am confident that in concert with other Commonwealth and State agencies, we will successfully contribute to the safest, and therefore the most enjoyable games possible for all those involved.
