The Sydney Navy fun run attracted a good field of 110 competitors this year,
including 20 strong team from the Royal Australian Navy Band.
Now in its eight year, the run is organised by the Navy Indoor Sports Centre
at HMAS KUTTABUL.
The event was divided into six sections: open men; open women; veteran men;
veteran women; male walkers; and female walkers.
The open male section was contested over a 7.5 km course, while the open
female and veteran groups run for 5 km.
The walkers completed a 3.6 km course.
Some excellent times were achieved, including two records.
The records were set by three female competitors: the open female section
was taken out by SMN Jenny Macrow with a time of 19:56; veteran female Jenny
Nelson who covered her course in 25:12; and female walker CPO Wendy Ross
with a time of 24:19.
Open male winner was SGT Warren Matulick with a time of 26:29.
MAJ Ryan was the first to complete the veteran male course with a time of
20:07.
The first male walker across the line was CPL Rod Shields who covered his
course in 27:11.
