Divers work on wreck

Clearance divers and ordnance specialists from AUSCDTs One and Four have completed another vital task in East Timor.

They attended Betano to dive on the wreck of VOYAGER 1, the WW11 warship grounded during the Far East campaign of the war.

Their job was to survey the wreck and locate and destroy any ordnances left behind more that 50 years ago.

They disposed of one Mk 8 torpedo, 20 four-inch projectiles, 10 depth charges and 115 four-inch powder fuses.

They identified items of historical significance including an anchor; three four inch guns and the ship's two propellers.

The divers also sighted other unexploded devices in and around the wreck and now recommend further tasking.
