Falling for Safety

December 14, 1998

When stuntman Dean Gould "fell" in to Sydney Harbour he didn't come to any harm. He was simply getting the message across about safety.

Dean and a number of civilian actors, along with a team of 'real' sailors from HMAS PERTH were called in to appear in a 20 minute occupational health and safety video for the Royal Australian Navy.

ABWTR Brodie Wootten from HMAS PERTH, left, with
two of the civil actors, Jodie Mears and David Goddard, brought on board to help the Navy produce the safety video.

Even the Deputy Chief of Navy, RADM Chris Oxenbould, and the commander of PERTH, CAPT Lou Rago, had parts.

Paul Mason, the producer of the video said: "Until now the navy has used occupational health and safety training videos produced for the civilian community.

"We wanted something which related more closely to the Navy.

"The video is almost finished. It should be ready for Christmas. Cost will be less than $12,000. We have used paid outside actors along with our own people.

"PERTH was used for some scenes while RADM Oxenbould did the introduction."

Paul said the video would be part of the course training presentations.
