An Australian naval officer has taken a United States nuclear-powered submarine to sea.

Fishermen rescued
The crew of a Royal Australian Navy Seahawk helicopter has battled 45 knot winds to winch six Australian fishermen from a 28 metre fishing boat aground on a Tasman Sea reef and being pounded by huge waves.

   
Farewell To An Old Friend
Salty Eckel, sailor, avid footballer, columnist for this newspaper......and a "good bloke".....has died. A retired Petty Officer Leading Writer, he passed away in a Townsville hospital on July 28 aged 69.
