"I'm going to be there" says footy star
Thirteen-year-old disabled Josh Rees declared: "This is better than being in school" when sailors from HMAS NEWCASTLE carried him aboard their ship last week. The youngster has cerebral palsy and is generally confined to a wheelchair.
ADFA changes after poor report
A damning report revealling sexual harrassment, binge drinking and mental cruelty at the Australian Defence Force Academy has brought quick responses from the Minister for Defence Personnel, Mrs Bronwyn Bishop, and the Chief of the Defence Force, GEN John Baker.
Boat passengers sought to stay here
The Australian patrol boat HMAS DUBBO (LCDR D. Allen) has intercepted two Indonesian fishing boats on which all the passengers wanted to come to Australia to live. The encounters occurred in waters off north-western Australia, last month (June).
Navy called to check cache of bombs
A Royal Australian Navy explosive expert has deloused a home-made grenade, part of a cache of weapons, bombs, ammunition, booby trap kits and manuals found in an underground bunker in country Queensland.
Navy in RIMPAC sea dramas
HMAS MELBOURNE (CMDR P. Jones) and her Seahawk helicopter have figured in two dramatic sea searches during the ship's trans-Pacific voyage to the RIMPAC exercise area off Hawaii.
PERTH helps out the swans
