PERTH helps out the swans

June 29, 1998

The Sydney swans are graceful, elegant and beautiful and the boys in HMAS PERTH agree they need a helping hand.

But it's certainly not the Swans football team the PERTH's company is anxious to assist, but the black swans ... the emblem of the destroyer's adoptive state ... of Sydney's Taronga Zoo.

The sailors in PERTH have been sponsoring the zoo's swans for about three years and a group took time out to visit the birds.

A number of ships and establishments sponsor Taronga animals, ranging from HMAS BRISBANE's steel-coloured big cat, the white tiger Chester, to the bilbies which come under the tender care of HMAS KUTTABUL.
