1941 — Palmyra, North Africa, surrenders to British forces.

1918 — Australians accept British tanks in the Battle of Hamel, Western Front. LCpl Thomas ‘Jack’ Axford, 16 Bn, and Pte Henry Dalziel, 15 Bn, are awarded VCs for their actions at Hamel Woods, France.
1941 — Acting Wg-Cdr Hughie Edwards, RAAF No. 105 Sqn awarded the VC for his actions during a raid on Bremen, Germany.
1942 — Australian 9 Div reinforces US 8th Army at El Alamein.

1950 — Commonwealth Naval Forces assume responsibility for the west coast of Korea.
1957 — #101 Fd Wksp.

July 6
1918 — Cpl Walter ‘Wally’ Brown, 20 Bn, awarded the VC for his actions during conflicts at Villers-Bretonneux, France.
1941 — Lt Arthur Cutler, 2/5 Fd Regt, awarded the VC for his actions at Merdjayoun and Damour, Lebanon.

1940 — HMAS Stuart and Waterhen used in screen at the bombardment of Bardia.

1917 — RAN forms minesweeping brigade.

1918 — Lt Albert Borella, 26 Bn, awarded the VC for his actions at Villers-Bretonneux, France.

1916 — 5 Div in Battle of Fromelles.
1940 — HMAS Sydney sinks Italian cruiser Bartolemeo Colleoni off Crete.

July 20
1943 — HMAS Hobart hit by torpedoes off San Cristobal.

July 21
1900 — 300 Australians ambushed by Boers at Elands River Post, South Africa.

July 22
1919 — Australians in attack at Archangel, North Russia.
1942 — Japanese advance on trails towards Port Moresby. Pte Arthur Gurney, 2/48 Bn, awarded posthumous VC for actions at Tel El Eisa, Egypt.

July 23
1916 — Battle of Pozieres, France, begins.
1916 — Lt Arthur Blackburn, and Pte John Leak 9 Bn, awarded VCs their for actions at Pozieres.
1942 — Japanese and Australian troops contact near Awala, PNG.

July 24
1900 — Capt Neville Howse, NSW Army Medical Corps, awarded the VC for his actions at Vredefort, Orange Free State, the only VC awarded to Australian medical personnel.
1942 — #Kapooka Medical Centre. Australians fall back to Kokoda.
1945 — Pte Frank Partridge, 8 Bn, awarded the VC for his actions at Bougainville.
1953 — 2RAR and 3RAR defend the Hook on the Jamestown Line against the Chinese in Korea.

July 25
1916 — Pte Thomas Cooke, 8 Bn, awarded the VC for his actions at Pozieres, France.

July 26
1915 — #2 Div.
1940 — #AAB Melbourne.
1942 — 2/28 Bn attacks Miteriya Ridge during the El Alamein campaign, only to be overrun by Germans because Allied armoured support could not get through enemy lines to support the Australians.
1945 — Allies issue Japan with the ultimatum to surrender.

July 27
1942 — Japanese capture Kokoda.
1953 — UN and Communist Chinese delegates sign ceasefire in Panmunjon, Korea.

July 28
1916 — Sgt Claud Castleton, 5 MG Coy, awarded the VC for his actions near Pozieres. He died during the action.
1917 — The Tank Corps is formed by Royal Warrant.
1942 — Australians capture Kokoda from Japanese.
1951 — l Commonwealth Div forms in Korea and occupies the Kansas Line.

July 29
1901 — South Australians attack commando forces at Groot Valliers farm, South Africa.
1942 — Japanese retake Kokoda.

July 30
1916 — HMAS Pioneer bombards Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania.

July 31
1917 — Allies in third battle of Ypres.
1960 — Malayan Emergency ends after 12 years and 45 days.
1962 — AATTV arrives in South Vietnam.
