1864 — Capt Charles Heaphy, Auckland City Volunteers, receives first colonial VC for his actions during the Maori Wars.

1900 — Victorians engage Boers at Pink Hill, Cape Colony.
1942 — 64 nurses escape during the fall of Singapore on board SS Vyner Brooke.
1951 — WRAAC formed

February 13
1946 — 34 Bde sails from Morotai for Japan.
1965 — 1SAS Sqn advance party departs Perth for Borneo.

February 14
1942 — Vyner Brooke sunk off the Banka Island, 62 nurses survive only to be shot by Japanese. Sr Vivian Bullwinkel (Statham) fakes death to survive.

February 15
1942 — Singapore surrenders to Japanese. Maj-Gen Gordon Bennett hands over command of 8 Div and escapes Singapore by sampan.

February 16
1951 — Australians and Chinese battle for Hill 327 in Korea.

February 17
1900 — NSW troops in action at Paardeburg, Orange Free State.

1941 — Australians arrive in Singapore.
1943 — 9 Div returns to Australia.
