1864 — Australians see action in New Zealand during Maori Wars.
1917 — Pte Joegen Jensen, 50 Bn, awarded the VC for his actions at Noreuil, France.
1982 — Argentina invades the Falkland Islands.

April 3
1900 — Victorian Bushmen arrive in East Africa.
1941 — Britain evacuates Benghazi as it falls to Axis troops.

April 4
1885 — NSW contingent in action in Sudan.
1941 — 2AIF battles Panzer Armee Afrika Corps (Afrika Corps).
1951 — #Randwick Dental Unit.

April 5
1951 — 3RAR crosses 38th Parallel, Korea.

April 6
1917 — US declares war on Germany.
1942 — 42nd US Div arrives in Australia as part of US build up in the Pacific region.
1952 — 1RAR arrives in Korea.
1990 — #Townsville Log Coy.

April 7
1918 — Lt Percy Storkey, 19 Bn, awarded the VC for his actions at Bois de Hangard, France.
1941 — British and Australian soldiers evacuate Derna with Axis forces in pursuit.
1967 — Maj Peter Badcoe, AATTV, awarded the VC posthumously for his actions in Vietnam. This was the first VC awarded to an Australian during the Vietnam War.

April 9
1917 — Pte Thomas Kenny, 2 Bn, awarded VC for his actions at Hermies, France.
1942 — Aircraft carrier HMAS Hermes and destroyer HMAS Vampire are sunk off the coast of Ceylon.

April 10
1941 — The last Australian rearguard reaches Tobruk. 6 Div engages Germans in Greece. Siege of Tobruk begins.

April 11
1917 — The first attack on Bullecourt, with tanks in support, is unsuccessful.
1941 — Rommel launches attack on Tobruk.

April 12
1941 — Anzac Corps reformed in Greece by Gen Thomas Blamey.

April 13
1916 — First engagement of light horse in Sinai.
1941 — Cpl John Edmonson, 2/17 Bn, awarded the VC for his actions at Tobruk. This is the first VC awarded to an Australian during WW2.

April 14
1941 — Second attack on Tobruk by Panzerarmee Afrika (Afrika Corps) fails.
1943 — RAAF and USAF shoot down 21 Japanese planes over Milne Bay, New Guinea.
1951 — A Coy 3RAR takes Hill Sardine, Korea.

April 15
1917 — Capt James Newland and Sgt John Whittle, 12 Bn, awarded VCs for their actions west of Boursies and Lagnicourt, France. Lt Charles Pope, 11 Bn, awarded the VC for his actions at Louveral, France.
1918 — Australians contact Germans at Villers-Bretonneux.
1951 — C Coy 3RAR takes Hill Salmon, Korea.

1917 — Diggers in second battle of Gaza, Egypt.
1990 — #Bandiana Log Gp.

April 18
1941 — #RAAEC.
1942 — Gen Thomas Blamey appointed Commander Land Forces, South West Pacific.

April 19
1941 — Luftwaffe raids London killing 2300.

April 20
1941 — Anzac Corps withdraws to the Thermopylae Line, Greece.

April 22
1915 — Germans use gas against Allied forces at the Second Battle of Ypres.
1941 — Evacuation of Australians from Greece begins.

1951 — Chinese begin spring offensive against UN troops in Korea.

1918 — Eleven volunteers from HMAS Australia raid Ostend and Zeebrugge, Belgium.
1951 — 3RAR sets up in Kapyong Valley.

1900 — Naval contingent returns to Sydney from China.
1915 — British, Australian and New Zealand troops land on Gallipoli Peninsula.
1918 — Lt Clifford Sadlier, 51 Bn, awarded the VC for his actions at Villers-Bretonnuex, France.

April 26
1916 — 4 Bn occupies Lone Pine, Gallipoli.
1944 — Australian occupy Alexishafen, New Guinea.
1953 — Cease fire talks between UN and North Korea commence in Panmunjon, Korea.
1966 — #1 Avn Regt.
