A NEW school at Al Najem in southern Iraq, built through an Australian Army Civil Military Cooperation project, has been officially opened.
Previously lessons were held in a tent, but the school now boasts two large air-conditioned buildings, a main gate, a toilet facility and septic tank, a 200-litre water tank, a 220V generator, and a 500m road linking the centre of town with the school.
The headmaster thanked the Australian soldiers for their generosity in helping the children, aged from 4-14.
