On par: The Army team that defeated Air Force 6-1 in the 2007 Sir David Martin golf grand final.

ARMY made light of Air Force’s top-of-the-table finish to upset it 6-1 in the 2007 Sir David Martin golf grand final at Kogarah Golf Club in Sydney on August 10.

Staged by the Naval Golf Association, teams competed to decide final ladder positions, with 51 players participating.

A close game was expected between Air Force and Army, with one win apiece in games against each other during the year. Air Force was the clear favourite to win after suffering only one loss for the year – against Army in the first round.

Air Force had shown great form leading up to the final, winning its matches easily.

In the game that really mattered, Air Force suffered a form lapse to register its worst result for the year with only one player showing the form that put it top of the ladder.

It was bitterly disappointed with the result and lowered its colours to Army.

Army Captain WO1 Steve Ditullio gladly accepted the trophy, thanking Kogarah club for hosting the event and the NGA for coordinating and running the day.

In minor results Albatross beat Creswell in the decider for third and fourth, and Kuttabul defeated Other Sydney Establishments
(5 v 6).

The Sir David Martin competition will resume in February.
