SOLDIERS and medical specialists from the International Stabilisation Force (ISF) in Timor-Leste have helped save the life of an off-duty police officer who had suffered a life-threatening stab wound.
Constable Louis Pinto was stabbed in the stomach in Uatolari in the country’s east on August 13.
He received immediate first aid from ISF soldiers before UN Police officers evacuated him by road to Viqueque, where ISF troops had secured a landing zone for an ISF helicopter with a specialist aeromedical evacuation team on board.
The wounded officer was stabilised by the aeromedical team and airlifted to Dili, where he underwent an immediate life-saving operation. He is in a stable condition.
