Red letter day: Maj-Gen Richard Wilson thanks Maj Gary Schulz for coordinating the award-winning efforts of blood donors in South East Queensland.
DEFENCE in South East Queensland are the Red Cross Blood Bank’s 2006-07 Corporate Challenge Champions.
More than 260 ADF personnel donated more than 125 litres of blood between December 1 and February 28 to “out donate” more than 70 organisations.
Commander 1 Div Maj-Gen Richard Wilson thanked the Defence team, which included former Commander Maj-Gen Ash Power.
“From the information I have, only 3 per cent of the population donate blood and yet more than 30 per cent of the population at some stage through their life have need for that blood,” Maj-Gen Wilson said.
“On that basis I think it is important Defence supports a very worthwhile cause like this and anything we can do to assist the Red Cross with blood is definitely something we should look at doing.”
He thanked Defence challenge coordinator Maj Gary Schulz and said he would look at supporting the cause again this year.
Maj Schulz said Defence won the largest challenge category for more than 100 employees.
He said it was a great effort and showed Defence was a good corporate citizen.
