Appointment at tooth-hurty: 3CSSB Dental Section dentist Capt Geoff Harvey and dental assistant Pte Rhianon Farley demonstrate the use of the new Portable Dental Treatment Suite, with the help of colleague Cpl Kellie Davies.
THE first components of Army’s new Portable Dental Treatment System have now been issued to high readiness health elements in 1 Div and 17 CSS Bde.

The equipment is part of a new health equipment package to be delivered under Joint Project 2060 Phase 2B (ADF Deployable Health Capability).

Maj David Benson, AHQ, said the project would ultimately improve the existing deployable health capability to enhance the prevention, treatment and evacuation of casualties.

“Our standards of care are the same as a normal Australian dental surgery but the system is more robust, compact, resistant to dust and easily transportable for operational requirements,” Maj Benson said.

The Portable Dental Treatment Suite and Dental Steriliser are only the first components of the new Portable Dental Treatment System.

The remaining elements of the system including new portable dental chair, lighting and dental imaging system will be acquired in 2008.

These acquisitions, when coupled with the Controlled Environment Soft Shelter, also being acquired by JP2060-2B, will improve the quality of deployable dental care for Army.
