Army takes top awards

ARMY had 17 players selected for the Australian Services Rugby Union representative team and won both major men’s awards at the end of the ASRU championships in Canberra on August 18.
Army retained the Wg-Cdr John Caldwell Shield by winning both its matches against Navy and Air Force.
Gnr Samuel Jenkins, 8/12 Mdm Regt, won the Malcolm Van Gelder Award as Rookie of the Tournament while Capt Sean Kearns, RMC Duntroon, was named men’s Player of the Tournament.
The Army men selected were Pte Shaun Richardson, Pte Sam Jenkins, Pte Adam Nixon, Cpl Tim Glover, LCpl Shaun Jolley, Capt Sean Kearns, Tpr Jacob Byrt, Cfn Mat Fraser, LCpl Daniel George, Cpl Ricky Dumigan, Cpl Ben Jones, Leut Trent Beilken, Cpl Zane Mitchell, Capt Brad Hesket, LCpl Kieran Dan, Sig Luke Preston and LCpl Chey Bird.
Army also provide the emergency pool with Sgt Tom Navusolo, LCpl Bronsen Mitchell, Capt Peter Conroy, Sgt Gavin Whiteside and Cpl Nathan Herbert on standby.
Army had 15 women selected in the representative team after their 25-10 loss to Navy/Air Force. Those selected were: Pte Stacey Bolton, Lt Sally Carter, Cpl Rebecca Crossingham, Pte Angela Dare, Sgt Joanne Downes, Lt Chloe Dray, Pte Fiona Gallacher, OCdt Cheryl Moir, Cpl Laetisha Roberts, Capt Melissa Ross, Sig Alisha Smith, SCdt Kate Porter, SCdt Caroline Vakalahi, Capt Naomi Roguzs and Capt Jen Egan. |
