THE ADF facilities at Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) Butterworth are set to receive a 23.6 mil redevelopment.
The project will include the construction of three new headquarter buildings, a combined armoury, installation of a sewage treatment plant and the refurbishment of some existing facilities.
Construction is planned to commence in early 2008, with completion expected in late 2009. On completion, they will give ADF personnel office and working environments to provide for operational and training support to the RAAF and Army.
RMAF Butterworth is an important logistics hub that allows the ADF to participate in the Five Power Defence Arrangements (FPDA) with Malaysia, Singapore, the United Kingdom and New Zealand, and to engage in bilateral cooperation with Malaysia. Australia’s role in the FPDA contributes to security and stability in South East Asia and enhances Australia’s ability to respond to regional contingencies including humanitarian and disaster relief such as the 2004 Boxing Day tsunami.
RMAF Butterworth currently supports ADF activities throughout southeast Asia and houses both Army and RAAF units. |
