IF you’ll pardon the puns, Army and Air Force will be looking for any angle to tip the scales their way in the 2007 inaugural challenge between their two Townville-based fishing clubs.
The challenge will give the winners bragging rights as the best Defence anglers in the Townsville region and will involve financial members of the Army Sportsfishing Club at Lavarack Barracks and the RAAF Townsville Fishing Club.
The challenge is the result of work by both club committees over the past few months to establish an annual competition series.
The challenge will comprise three individual events, with each club taking a turn in the running of an event.
These events will be contested in various fishing environments designed to challenge all anglers and their individual skills, with no advantages to any one angler over the three contested events.
Events will be held around North Queensland, testing beach fishing, saltwater, bay, estuary, and freshwater impoundments.
Interested anglers who are not members of either club are advised to join now to have the opportunity of joining in the challenge.
The first round was held in early July at Alva Beach, where Army won to take a slim lead in the series.
Air Force has vowed to close the gap at the next event at Peter Faust Dam on November 10-11. Club members and families are encouraged to become involved, fish, and enjoy the cross-club banter.
