Soldiers hurt in ASLAV crash

FIVE Overwatch Battle Group (West) 3 soldiers were injured when their ASLAV rolled during a routine patrol in southern Iraq on August 3.

The incident occurred about 11am local time when the patrol was manoeuvring their vehicle along an elevated road within a levee-based irrigation system.

ADF spokesman Brig Andrew Nikolic said the soldiers received immediate first-aid and subsequent treatment at a coalition facility.
“One soldier sustained minor upper body injuries during the rollover,” Brig Nikolic said.

“The four other soldiers suffered minor abrasions and bruising consistent with being in a large, combat-loaded vehicle as it rolled over.”

The vehicle was later recovered by OBG(W)3 elements without incident.

A assessment into the circumstances surrounding the accident was under way.
