EVERY soldier will have a role to play in the expansion of the Army, according to Assistant Deputy Chief of Army Brig Wayne Bowen.
“I wouldn’t think there is a man or woman in Army that is not going to be involved in some way or another,” Brig Bowen said.
“The growth will take some immense effort in the early years, which will affect all soldiers.
“Because we’ve got to grow, and grow quickly, we need quality instructors to meet the throughput in a number of key places.”
Brig Bowen said Training Command would need to increase instructors at 1RTB, School of Infantry and School of Armour.
“All Army will have to put their shoulder to the wheel to find those people. This is an Army problem, not just a Training Command problem,” he said. “It’s a long campaign with five to 10 years of sustained growth.
“So there’s no getting away from it – if you’ve got some experience, then you will be involved in the production of the capability.”
He said recruiting had already increased and that current indications were “quite healthy”.
“We need steady recruitment, we need people to stay and we need a commitment from all of Army to make this work. Everyone’s got to play a part,” he said. “The recruiting and retention initiatives are very much a part of this and they’ve always being linked to our growth.”
Brig Bowen said the ELF project was a great opportunity for Army. “It’s exciting because we’re growing, we’re receiving all this new capability and we’re on operations.” |
