THE survival of three soldiers in an IED attack in Iraq has thrown light on the dedicated team of ADF specialists who work to combat the threat.

Leading the Counter IED Task Force, Brig Phil Winter said his team continually analysed IED incidents and provided timely information to ADF and allied troops in an effort to reduce casualties.

“Having good tactics, techniques and procedures, good equipment and good threat awareness, are all layers that provide our soldiers with top quality force protection,” Brig Winter said.

The CIEDTF also provides updated information for the Brisbane-based Explosive Hazard Centre, responsible for training ADF personnel in CIED.

“This ensures that the training they provide to deploying troops is constantly updated and reflects the current threat,” Brig Winter said.

He said although there was no ‘silver bullet’ for the IED threat, TTPs, weapon systems, counter measures, armour and protective equipment all added to the protection of personnel and equipment.
