Golfing duo win for ADF |
|
WO2 Kim Johansen and CPL Marty Evans were the only undefeated ADF Golf Association players as ADFGA had a narrow squeak for a 12.5 to 11.5 win against the Victorian Golf Association in mid-March. The win at Sorrento Golf Club helped erase memories of a narrow defeat in 2006 and gave the ADFGA its third win in the past four years. Since the inaugural match in 1991, the ADFGA Combined Services team has played against a team of selected amateurs from the Victorian Golf Association. Matches are played in tremendous spirit and expose ADF golfers to a high level of competition, as evidenced by the close contests of the previous three years. A morning fourball match opened the first day’s play, followed by foursomes in the afternoon. The ADF team had a number of debutants, and the benign conditions combined with the format of fourball better ball proved a good nerve-settler and an introduction to the guiles of the VGA team. VGA led by four matches to two after the first morning’s play. The ADF team took an early lead in the afternoon and the day ended six matches all. Wg-Cdr Michael Dickson got the ADF off to a solid start amid squally conditions at the start of the second day. A mixed result during the day came down to Cpl Patton’s 1.5m putt to square the match. |
