WO1 Greg Chinnery and WO2 Peter Smith are set to embark on a 4500km road rally from Darwin to Dubbo. Before the charity competition even begins they will have to drive that same distance just to reach the starting line – making it truly a journey of epic proportions. WO2 Smith, from the Army Financial Services Unit - Eastern Region in Sydney, said the unit decided to enter in the Kidney Kar Rally to raise money for Kidney Health Australia. “WO1 Greg Chinnery saw the Kidney Kar Rally and thought it was a great opportunity to raise money for kidney health and also provide leadership training for junior leaders at the unit,” said WO2 Smith. The rally will be held from August 14-24, and WO2 Smith said the eight- member team will be crewing two vehicles on the trek. “So far we have raised $7000 and have commitments for another $5000 and during the rally there will be a couple of opportunities to raise more money.” The teams will hold a fundraising dinner at the Moorebank area Sergeants Mess on June 16. To make donations or to purchase tickets to the dinner or for the Kidney Health Australia raffle, contact WO2 Peter Smith on 0407 109 680. |
