A MILESTONE in the standing-up of the High Readiness Reserve (HRR) was reached at Greenbank Range near Brisbane when the first 32 soldiers within 2 Div signed on to the new scheme.
The collective sign-on represents the first platoon of six company-sized HRR Combat Teams, which were officially raised on the establishment as PMKeys positions in late February.
Greenbank Range proved a suitably appropriate backdrop to demonstrate the new Army Reserve capability because
8 Bde soldiers were at Green-bank for lead-up training for Operation Anode.
Commander 2 Div Maj-Gen Ian Flawith said the 32 soldiers from 2/17RNSWR and 41RNSWR would be the first of many within 2 Div to bring the HRR to a reality.
“Six HRR Combat Teams have been established within 2 Div based on a combat team from each of the six brigades,” Maj-Gen Flawith said.
“This is the first step by 8 Bde to raise its team.
“Essentially, the sign-on gives us the first platoon of the
8 Bde Combat Team and the first HRR personnel in 2 Div.”
Maj-Gen Flawith said he was confident that the new
2 Div operational task in support of Op Anode would encourage soldiers to sign on for the expanding HRR capability.
He said that further rotations to the Solomon Islands would see soldiers of 2 Div join the HRR in increasing numbers.
“They are prime candidates. They meet all the requirements for HRR service and they are obviously prepared to commit to operations – which is what we expect of the HRR in every regard,” he said.
Maj-Gen Flawith said two HRR Combat Teams would be aligned with each of the three ARA brigades.
“The intent is that HRR Combat Teams will be operationally aligned with their relevant brigade’s operational role,” he said.
The HRR forms part of the Hardened and Networked Army - Reserve initiative. |
