|
ONE of Army’s premier signals regiments has turned 60. 7 Sig Regt celebrated its birthday on February 9 with a ceremonial parade reviewed by Head of Information Systems Division, Brig Peter Lambert. The founding elements of 7 Sig Regt were established at Borneo Barracks at Cabarlah, Queensland in 1947. Throughout its 60-year history, 7 Sig Regt has deployed on many operations – from Malaya, through Vietnam, to Somalia and Bougainville and at present it has personnel on all the major ADF operations. After reviewing the soldiers of 7 Sig Regt, Brig Lambert presented several citations and awards. WO2 Michael Barling and Sgt Andrew Aston were presented the Central Bureau Award for their role in developing, implementing, deploying and supporting several capabilities that provide essential signals intelligence support to ADF forces in Iraq. Sgt Kim Hayes was awarded the first clasp to the Defence Force Service Medal for 20 years’ service to the ADF. The Afghanistan Campaign Medal was presented to WO1 Justin Tobin for his service on Operation Slipper. |
