A $4 MILLION history and research centre will be established at the SASR’s home in Campbell Barracks, Perth.

Prime Minister John Howard announced the investment during a visit to the barracks on February 20.

The centre will primarily serve as a training facility for the members of SASR and will showcase the achievements of the unit.

It will provide facilities for the collection, storage and review of lessons learned from the past and will assist with preparing for future operations, according to Defence Minister Brendan Nelson.

“The regiment has a proud and successful history, rich with experience in dangerous operations that have been undertaken in the interests of all Australians,” Dr Nelson said.

The SASR history and research centre will be officially opened in September to coincide with the regiment’s 50th anniversary.
