7 SIG Regt has transferred under a Hardened and Networked Army initiative from a Land Command unit to a Direct Command Unit of 1 Div.
Commander 1 Div Maj-Gen Ash Power welcomed 7 Sig Regt into the fold during a parade at Borneo Barracks, Cabarlah, on December 4.
As part of 1 Div, 7 Sig Regt will take a greater part of divisional and brigade planning and exercises.
After reviewing the soldiers of 7 Sig Regt, Maj-Gen Power awarded numerous citations, campaign medals and promotions to members of the unit.
Of note, WO2 Geoff Rodgers and WO2 Wayne Tripcony were promoted to captain, Cpl Matthew Thiselton received the Deputy Chief of Joint Operations Bronze Commendation for his outstanding efforts on Operation Astute, WO1 Danielle Barber received a Chief of Joint Operations Commendation for her commendable conduct on Operation Sumatra Assist and Capt Kellie Robinson received Chief of Joint Operations Commendation for her exemplary performance on Operation Catalyst.
Maj-Gen Power said the awards reflected the operational tempo of the unit and that the awards and promotions were well deserved and acknowledged the unit’s hard work over a busy year.
In his speech to the parade Maj-Gen Power said the move to 1 Div will be another defining event in the unit’s proud history since its inception as the Australian Special Wireless Group in World War II.
He went on to acknowledge the unit’s involvement in every major operation since its establishment and this reflected that the support the unit provides is invaluable to any land commander. |
