THE Combined Australian Services Rugby League has revamped its playing calendar for its 10th anniversary year to achieve a better fit with its commitments to major Australian Rugby League events. CASRL president WO1 Grahame Cavanough said that the annual tri-service championships would be played in May this year instead of March. The CASL season will open with a match against the New Zealand Defence Force team at the Broncos’ home ground, Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium on April 20 as a curtain-raiser to the Anzac Test between Australia and New Zealand. The game is expected to become an annual event and most of last year’s CASRL representative side again will provide the bulk of the Australian side. The CASRL championships are expected to be held at Sydney’s Randwick Barracks from May 21-27. Each service will play to determine the championship and the representative side will go into camp from May 28 to prepare for the ARL Affiliated States’ Carnival in Perth from June 1-3. |
