THE Australian Army Band – Melbourne performed for the 50th anniversary of the 1956 Olympic Games, at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on November 22.

The band performed at an unveiling ceremony for a new Olympic plaque commemorating the event, then presented a stage show for 60 Olympians during a luncheon at the Melbourne Cricket Club (MCC).

It was an exciting reunion for the athletes, who were addressed by executive members of the Australian and international Olympic committees.

Kevan Gosper, the Australian representative of the IOC, presented a bronze sculpture to the president of the MCC, David Jones, that will go on display in the permanent collection of the historical exhibition at MCC.

Several athletes donated items to the historical collection, including uniforms and Olympic memorabilia.
