THE Beatles, Stones, Elvis and a whole panoply of pop’s princes and princesses miss out here but still a treasure trove of top pops in 58 quality tracks on three CDs.
No heavy stuff, excellent sound in an appealing, thoughtful and familiar classic collection from down through the years including Aussie content and no repeat artists (overlooking that Phil Collins gets a gig in his own right as well as with Genesis). Good value, lots to like, little to dislike.

THIS double CD will not disappoint fans of previous MoS annuals or CDs in the dance/funk genre. There is enough dance and funk going on in this two-CD pack to last a drive from Sydney to Melbourne or a long walk to the disco! John Course and Mark Dynamix have mixed these two CDs to the max!

OUTLANDISH’s last album Bread and Barrels of Water had a few very catchy tunes. Their style is electronic hip-hop, with a strong Muslim influence. Closer than Veins also has a few catchy tunes, nice and mellow with a smooth Middle Eastern beat. The Danish group haven’t made much of a name for themselves in Australia but are particularly well known in Europe.

ON first listening to this latest instalment from Keith Urban you would be excused for calling it a rock/country album after the first run-through. Standout tracks include I can’t stop loving you, newly released single Once in a lifetime, and Everybody, which was written with Richard Marx – which only adds to the quality of the song. For Urban and country fans this title will not disappoint.

THERE are always new classical music collections being released. Some are old hat, some are special.
Spellbound features compositions not often pushed into mainstream classical music, like Elgar’s Sospiri, Op.70 and Chopin’s Berceuse in D flat. Interestingly James Horner’s Titanic theme makes the grade too.
This is a lovely collection, perfect accompaniment to a chilled sauvignon blanc. You can appreciate this double album even if you’ve never heard of the not-celebrated-enough Russian composer Dmitri Shostakovich.
