Warfare bids farewell to Silver Fox

AS
Armys Electronic Warfare unit farewelled one of its longest
serving members, the unit also celebrated an anniversary.
Deployed to Vietnam in 1966, 547 Sig Tp has celebrated its 40th
anniversary at 7 Sig Regt in Queensland.
Held at Borneo Barracks, the ceremony gave current members the chance
to meet about 40 Vietnam veterans of 547 Sig Tp.
The troop, which was attached to 104 Sig Sqn in Nui Dat, tracked
the 275 Vietcong Regt prior to the Battle of Long Tan and developed
aerial radio direction Finding techniques.
It also gave commanders an increased appreciation for the employment
of signals intelligence.
7 Sig Regt has also farewelled one of its longest-serving and most
dedicated soldiers.
Maj Adrian Gilbert dubbed The Silver Fox
has retired after 36 years in RASigs. Over the weeks leading up
to his farewell, 7 Sig Regt received many signals and anecdotes
from across Army wishing Maj Gilbert well for his new career as
president of the Cabarlah Golf Club.
At a formal dinner, Col Comdt RASigs Brig Brian Edwards (retd) praised
Maj Gilbert for his service to Army.
The farewell dinner enabled those close to him to express their
appreciation of his service.
The numerous gifts, salutations and congratulations received were
testimony to the high regard in which he was held and a reminder
of his colourful history.
The Borneo Barracks Officers Mess dedicated an annex of the
mess to him with a plaque designating it as Adrians Wall.
7 Sig Regt, RASigs and the Australian Army will feel the absence
of Maj Gilbert, whose dedication to duty and pride in the service
are values that should be aspired to and emulated.
