Governing body gets an overhaul
Volume 11, No. 54, October 19, 2006
THE Australian Services Triathlon Association (ASTA) has been renamed the Australian Defence Sports Triathlon Association (ADSTA).
Vice President ADSTA Capt Del Madge said the decision to rename on September 1, was made during the recent three-day ADSTA committee meeting where it was agreed the title needed to reflect the inclusion of APS members and that the association’s constitution also required to be re-written.
“The overhaul was designed to bring the association’s administration and support to its members back in line with the Defence organisation’s vision,” she said.
“While the previous administration had done a good job of providing support to the members, the new committee saw many areas that needed improvement.
“The agreed changes to the administration have been designed to better the Association, its profile in Defence and the support provided to its members.”
Some of the major changes to the old ASTA administration are:
- five ADSTA Championship events to be held and supported annually;
- the Championship event support is to include event coordination, subsidised race fees, team shirts and activities;
- an annual National Championship Carnival. This event will include minor lead up events, the AGM, the Sprint and Olympic Distance Championships;
- the promulgation of all Triathlon Australia (TA) events for Defence members’ participation; and
- a new ergonomic uniform to be implemented and sold at cost to members.
The first ADSTA activity will be the National Championship Carnival, November 8-9, where triathletes will compete in events for individual and State titles.
