Pacific Cup contest set to be a thriller
Volume 11, No. 51, September 07, 2006
THE Australian Services Rugby Union (ASRU) representative team faces a tough challenge when it contests the inaugural Pacific Nations Military Rugby Cup in Canberra from September 12-16.
The Cup will be held at Vikings Rugby Park, Erindale, with the ASRU joined by teams from the Royal New Zealand Defence Force, French Armed Forces New Caledonia, Tongan Defence Services, Republic of Fiji Military Forces and Papua New Guinea Defence Force.
The Fijian side will boast five internationals. Last year, Fiji defeated ASRU 33-18 in a game at Victoria Barracks, Sydney.
Pacific Cup pool matches will be held from September 12-14 with the finals on September 16.
The ASRU team has just completed a six-day camp in Brisbane and will play Queensland Country Red Heelers at Ballymore on September 7 in its last hit out before the Cup. Its first pool game will be against the French on September 12.
