Major best at bowls
Volume 11, No. 50, August 24, 2006

MAJ Barry Dachs was named the best performer at the ACT/NSW Inter-Service lawn bowls competition.

Maj Dachs, who represented the Combined team, also won an award as one of the most valuable players of the competition at the Queanbeyan Bowling Club on July 26-27.

Maj Rick Beer was named as one of the best lead bowlers in the competition.

A youthful Navy team got off to a flying start in the competition before being overhauled by the Combined team.

To accommodate numbers in attendance, Navy was pitted against a side consisting of five Air Force and two Army personnel, a Navy member and two public servants.

It came out firing on day one and blew the opposition off the green to take a 6-1 lead after winning two rinks to one. In the afternoon game, the Combined team took only one rink but that was enough to take the overall win by five shots and shave Navy’s lead to 8-6.

All three games were relatively competitive on day two but the Combined side finally performed to expectations and won three rinks to nil to surge to a 13-8 win.
