the Army Old Boys and Randwick Old Boys game. AOB beat Randwick 5-0 in the curtain-raiser to the Army-Randwick main rugby union match at Victoria Barracks on May 24.
Army Old Boys were ably led by Lt-Gen Hurley up front and he scored the opening try in a strong first half that paved the way for AOB’s first win in the annual encounter.
Capt Cameron Baker also led from the front and Army welcomed back many old faces, while the Old Wicks fielded such notables as Roger Gould and Larry Home.
After dominating the first half, Army held on to its lead, though some younger “Old Wicks” took the field in the second half to test Army. Team manger Maj Tom Wall said, “Skill determination and pride in the jersey gave us the winning edge.”
