SGT Eliza Maygar has smashed the ADF half-marathon record, at the Brisbane marathon festival, by more than two minutes with a personal best of 1hr 23min and 52sec.
The victory added to her triumph in the 2005 ADF Marathon Championship.
Her winning performance was part of the 2006 ADF National State Teams Championship. Overall, she finished fifth among the women competitors to also win her age category.
In near-perfect conditions, 46 Defence runners representing state teams from Queensland, NSW/ACT, Victoria, and a combined WA, SA and Tasmania side competed for the coveted title of State Champions. This year’s winning team was the combined WA, SA and Tasmania team, with Queensland a close second.
Best ADF male performer was WO2 Richard Quirk who finished fifth in the men’s event in 1hr 17min 59sec.
Not to be outdone by the younger brigade, Maj Jeff Rudd, 50, ran a brilliant 1hr 21min 35sec.
