Course tests players in ADF championship
Volume 11, No. 45, June 15, 2006

Best in their class: WO1 Danny Wolfe, WO1 Ted Senini, WO2 Diane Wolfe and WO1 Beth Dippel – winners at the Wodonga championships.

WO2 Di Wolfe has successfully defended her women’s crown at the recent ADF Golf Cup Championship in Wodonga, Victoria.

WO2 Wolfe, who has been playing golf since 2000 and has a handicap of 12, fired a 78 net each day of the 36-hole championship to take the title.

The Regional Resource Manager at Bandiana North, she is a regular at Wondonga course but likes the challenge of different courses.

“I am left-handed and I attend the national left-handed championships each year. I have played in Perth, Queensland and Tasmania and this year I go to Nelson Bay for about a week in October,” she said.

Significant course changes stretched competitors from Queensland, NSW, the ACT, SA and Victoria at the ADF titles, but the fairways met with the approval of WO2 Wolfe.

“The fairways were brilliant and a lot easier to play this time,” she said.

“The bunkers were deeper this year with a fairway bunker on the 13th among extra bunkers around the greens. I was able to recover on a couple of holes, including a birdie on a par-five after a poor drive off the tee.”

In the men’s championship, WO2 Tom Deveraux almost made it a double for Army but went down to Leut Matthew Sekulitch.
Other winners in the ADF Cup Championship were: A-grade net, Flt-Lt Andrew Tyson; B-grade, scratch, Neville Hewett; net, Maj Sean Faulkner; C-grade, scratch, Colin McCulloch; net, Des Royal; Defence civilian/contractor, scratch, Karl Luck; net, Ken Hoppe; veterans, Jeff Menz and novice, Peter Gould.

The ADF championships incorporated the ADFGA Victorian Regional Handicap and the RAAOC Cup, with Sgt Graham Parker winning the regional crown from WO2 Tony Venables and the RAAOC Cup going to John Schaeche from Colin Thompson, who won the retired members’ category. WO1 Beth Dippel won the women’s event.

Other RAAOC Cup results were: A-grade net, Lt-Col (R) Rob Moule; B-grade, scratch, Kev Harrison; net, Tony Lowe and C-grade, scratch, WO1 Ted Senini.

The 2007 event will again incorporate the 25th RAAOC Cup and the ADFGA north east Victorian Regional Handicap.
