Scholar takes piece of Australia home
Volume 11, No. 44, June 01, 2006
By Lt-Col Christopher Holcroft

NABAZ Al-Qadhi is home in his native Iraq but misses the time he spent at Australia’s Command and Staff College in Canberra.
Maj Al-Qadhi said it was not easy to compare the Australian college with its Iraqi equivalent.

“I try to provide the students here with experience from ACSC, however, I have to use extra effort to approach anything like mutual understanding,” he said.

“Some of the students try to understand but, unfortunately, some are not ready to receive new ideas.
“But, I will not give up.”

He said his stay in Australia was a very valuable life experience.

“Australia’s environment, is some of the most gorgeous I have ever seen.

“In other ways, I was touched by the Australian people’s higher level of helpfulness, which made me feel like family.
“The best words I learnt from Australia, were, ‘Don’t worry, mate’.”

He said his landlady in Canberra was his “next mother” and was a very nice example of the Australian people.
“Thank you Australia, for everything. You are a great country. God bless you and your people.”
