Patrol hits roadside IED
Volume 11, No. 44, June 01, 2006

A SPECIAL Forces Task Group (SFTG) patrol vehicle was badly damaged on May 21 when it ran over a roadside improvised explosive device in southern Afghanistan.

CDF ACM Angus Houston said there were no serious casualties but one member had suffered minor shrapnel scratches.
“I am pleased to say that the member is well and was able to continue with his duties,” he said.

“I firmly believe that the professionalism of the SFTG, the significant force protection measures in place to ensure the safety of Australian soldiers, and the standard of our equipment prevented casualties in this incident.”

The vehicle was recovered by an Australian Chinook and will be returned to Australia.

There are currently more than 300 Australians deployed in Afghanistan as part of, or in support of, the SFTG.
