New man for 8 Bde

THE new commander of 8 Bde likes what he sees and relishes the role the brigade will play in the future defence of Australia.

Brig Iain Spence has spent 34 years as an Army reservist and has held several command positions including commander of the 12/16HRL and assistant commander of 2 Div.

Brig Spence said 8 Bde contributed to the security of Australia by providing trained soldiers for operational deployment, both overseas and in Australia.

"This contribution will become even more important with the increased role for the reserves under the Hardened and Networked Army program being implemented in 2006," he said

"The brigade has also provided support to the community during natural disasters, such as the Sydney hailstorms and Canberra bushfires."

He praised the efforts of every soldier in the brigade for playing an important part in achieving his aims and contributing to Army's capability and the security of Australia.
